Mission: Sharing the light of Jesus with one another & the world

December Mission - Food Baskets

This year's food basket mission was very successful thanks to the students of the West Prairie South Elementary School.  The students contributed much needed money and non-perishable food items to assist us in delivering baskets to 13 families this year.  Around 30 volunteers delivered the baskets two days before Christmas.  (Pictures will be coming soon, so check back)

Trunk n Treat - Halloween Night

Trunk N Treat was very successful as our first attempt.  We had volunteers cooking and serving hot dogs, nachos, hot chocolate, and cider.  We were visted by over 200 children and 100 adults who were trick or treating at the 20 wonderfully decorated vehicles stationed around the parking lot.  (Pictures will be coming soon, so check back)

The Trustee Committee has completed in 2011:

  • Major renovation of the upstairs parsonage bathroom

  • Installation of a new washer & dryer and refrigerator

  • Electrical outlets and lighting fixtures

  • Carpets cleaned

  • Yard work

  • General cleaning and painting

  • New windows

Future Trustee Projects:

  • Siding (donated) to be replaced on back garage
  • New parsonage roof (unexpected but very necessary project)
  • Remodeling of the chancel area of the church

The good news is that once we have finished the roof repair, we will have invested over $19,000 in our parsonage.  Most of this money has come from rental income.  Please continue to prayerfully consider how you might be able to help.  If you would like to make a gift to the church, designate on your offering envelope: "move expenses", "parsonage fund", or "current expenses".

Thank you

West Prairie Staff Appreciation Cook Out - 2010

To help kick off the new school year, West Prairie School District staff and their families were treated to a hamburger and hot dog meal held Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Church.  The staff and their family were introduced, along with the Church members who helped host the event.

Day Trip to Galena

On October 16, 2010, members of the Colchester United Methodist Church took a day trip to Galena, Illinois.  The group traveled route 84, which provided beautiful scenery.  The day consisted of lunch at 1111 Main Restaurant, followed by a tour of the oldest house in Illinois, the Dowling House.  After shopping downtown Galena, the group stopped for a tour of Grant’s Home before proceeding home.

2009 Overview

Like every year, 2009 had sorrows and joys, tribulations and triumphs.  Over all, our church has many reasons to celebrate.  We had musical guests perform, hosted the circuit rider, had a native American speaker, started a new service, increased our average attendance by 12 over 2008, participated in the closing worship of Tennessee United Methodist Church and welcomed their members, brought in several other new members, celebrated two weddings, took two “fun trips,” and did two fund-raising dinners, had several people attend and/or be team members on a Walk to Emmaus, sent several people to “Forged in the Fire” events, and welcomed new singers to the choir.  In addition to other missions and community service, we sent over 300 pounds of coats and winter clothing to the Native Americans in South Dakota, gave $300 for Liberia, gave seven Christmas baskets, caroled to the shut-ins, put on a community Easter egg hunt, served refreshments twice at elementary school events, and served the school district teachers and staff an appreciation dinner.  We improved our building by putting in a new water heater and sump pump, fixing the plumbing, redoing the Narthex, and moving the flower garden, as well as putting a new roof on the garage of the parsonage, and putting in some new windows there.  We have been busy and blessed.  One more blessing is that--for the first time in many, many years--we ended the year of 2009 with a few thousand dollars extra in our operating budget.
